The Big Task
You will listen to the needs of our customers, evaluate their home’s existing plumbing, heating, and water systems, and present solutions that genuinely improve their quality of life — from high-efficiency heating systems and boilers to water heaters and full system replacements. This role is built to support the steady, ongoing work of our install crews, and it is not a pressure-sale position. It is a consultative, relationship-driven role where doing right by the customer is always the goal, and where your reputation in a small community follows you to the next job.
Key ResponsibilitiesCUSTOMER CONSULTATION & SYSTEM ASSESSMENT
Conduct in-home consultations to evaluate a customer’s existing plumbing, heating, and water systems
Listen to the customer’s concerns, goals, and budget to identify the right solution for their home
Present replacement and new installation options clearly and honestly, always keeping the customer’s best interest in mind
Deliver a consultative, pressure-free experience that builds trust and earns repeat business and referrals
Understanding customers’ timelines and needs
PROPOSAL CREATION & FOLLOW-THROUGH
Build accurate, complete estimates and enter all required job documentation and communication with customers in our company-provided field service software
Clearly communicate the scope of work, product options, and pricing, and walk customers through our payment terms before any contract is signed.
Keep customers updated throughout the estimation process.
SALES PERFORMANCE & PIPELINE MANAGEMENT
Track your own sales pipeline and report lead disposition to the Sales Manager on a regular basis
On days without a pre-scheduled lead, generate new business through ride-alongs, proposal follow-up, or outbound calls
COMMUNITY & CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
Become a trusted resource in Grand County for home plumbing, heating, and water system knowledge.
Represent Grand Lake Plumbing & Heating professionally in every customer interaction and in the community.
Encourage satisfied customers to share their experience and refer friends and neighbors
Partner with the Install & Service Manager on training and job debriefs to keep sharpening your craft
What We’re Looking For
We’re not looking for someone who can simply close a deal — commission alone doesn’t make a good Systems Advisor here. We want someone who earns trust, tells customers the truth even when it costs a sale, and takes ownership of their results without needing to be managed day-to-day.
You Will Succeed in This Role If You:
Build rapport quickly and listen more than you talk
Can explain technical systems in plain language a homeowner actually understands
Stay organized and follow through — proposals, paperwork, and follow-ups don’t fall through the cracks
Handle “no” and slower seasons without losing momentum or cutting corners to force a sale
Take initiative on no-lead days instead of waiting around for the phone to ring
Align with our core values: Be Positive, Be a Team Player, Be Solution Oriented, Be Your Best, Do the Right Thing
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required
2+ years of outside sales, consultative sales, or home services sales experience preferred
2+ years of plumbing, HVAC, or related trade knowledge is a strong plus — but not required if you can learn it
Comfort with CRM or field service software and basic technical documentation
Valid Colorado driver’s license and reliable personal transportation required
Company Expectations
Always act in the customer’s best interest — misleading a customer to close a sale is never acceptable, regardless of the deal
Maintain a professional appearance and conduct on every call
Communicate proactively with the Sales Manager, CSR team, Install Coordinator, and Install Manager
Invest in your own ongoing training and product knowledge.
Help invest in continuous improvement in the company.
Uphold the company’s Code of Ethics at all times
Schedule & Work Environment
Primary work location is 12208 US Highway 34, Grand Lake, Colorado, with regular travel to customer homes throughout Grand County
In-home assessments may require being comfortable working in crawl spaces, basements, attics, and mechanical rooms
Year-round driving on mountain roads and passes in all Colorado weather conditions
On days without a scheduled appointment, expect standard office hours focused on lead generation and follow-up
